Lord Soames educated at Eton is the grandson of Sir Winston Churchill KG . Commissioned into the 11th Hussars he served in Germany & UK. He was subsequently Equerry to the then Prince Of Wales KGKT. He later served in the United States Senate Parliament . He worked in the City of London before entering into the Houses of Parliament .Nicholas was a Conservative Member of Parliament from 1983 to 2019. In the course of his distinguished career in Parliament he held a number of senior roles, including serving as a Minister for Defence and as Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. Nicholas has a specialist knowledge in the fields of Anglo-American Defence matters , Security in the Middle East and Europe , International Affairs, Trade and Industry, Aviation and the Countryside. He is currently President of the Conservative Middle East Council. senior Advisor to Panmure Gordon and to FMA Partners and to a number of other companies. Currently he is President of Brighton College, a Trustee of The Normandy Memorial Trust and a longstanding Trustee of the Amber Foundation. Nicholas was made a Privy Counsellor in 2011 and knighted in 2014. He was appointed a Life Peer in October 2022. Lord Soames is a member of the International Relations and Defence Committee of the House of Lords.
Lord Soames interests include reading, racing and country pursuits.
He has travelled widely.

Sir Richard Shirreff , a graduate from Exeter College, Oxford (Modern History) he was commissioned into the British Army from Sandhurst .In his 37-year career, he commanded soldiers on operations at every level from Platoon to Division.This included combat in the Gulf War of 1991 as a tank squadron leader , in Iraq as a Divisional Commander together with other operations in Northern Ireland Kosovo and Bosnia. In addition he had extensive staff experience at Brigade, Army HQ and in the Ministry of Defence . He commanded NATO’s Allied Rapid Reaction .Corps . His his final military assignment was NATO’s 4 Star Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (DSACEUR) . In February 2016 he co-founded Strategia Worlwide Ltd . A Global Risk Advisory Co.mpany . which has built up a sizeable portfolio of client across different sectors. In 2016 his novel “2017 War with Russia ” was published in the UK , USA and Poland . It became a best seller and has been translated into eight languages .
