He was Deputy Editor of both the Spectator and The Daily Telegraph and remains a columnist at the Daily and Sunday Telegraphs. \nHe has written a number of histories and biographies\, including a four-volume history of Britain from 1838 to 1939 and the authorised biography of Enoch Powell. \nHe edited three-volume unexpurgated edition of the diaries of Sir Henry ‘Chips’ Channon\, and has written three best-selling books on English grammar. \nSimon Heffer is Professor of Modern British History at the University of Buckingham. DESCRIPTION:DAME KAREN PIERCE DCMG\n\n\n\nSpeaks on\n“Should we be optimistic about America in the face of rising global uncertainty?”\n\n\n\n\nSaturday\, 6th September 2025 \n….From 2020 to 2025 Dame Karen Pierce was HM Ambassador to the United States\, the first woman to hold the post and the first woman to reach 4 star level in the Diplomatic Service. \n\n\nFrom 2018 Dame Pierce was the UK’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York\, also the first women to hold that post. Prior to these roles\, Dame Pierce served as the Chief Operating Officer and then Political Director of the then FCO in London. She has also held the posts of British Ambassador to Afghanistan from 2015 to 2016\, the UK Permanent Representative to the UN and WTO in Geneva from 2012 to 2015\, and Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN in New York from 2005 to 2009.\n\nHer London-based roles at the then FCO have included the following: Policy Director for South Asia and the Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan; Balkans Co-Ordinator; Deputy Head of News Department; and Head of Newsroom. Her early work covered Ukraine\, Belarus and Moldova as well as the Balkans and EU work.\n\nDame Karen Pierce DCMG is currently the UK’s Special Envoy for the Western Balkans\, based in the Foreign\, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in London. She is currently a (pro bono) member of the Board of Trustees of the National Theatre and a Governor of Ditchley. DESCRIPTION:RT HON PROFESSOR THE LORD KAKKAR KG KBE PC \n\n\n\nSpeaks on\n“NHS Reform\, Global Health Security\, Impact on Prosperity and Democracy”\n\n\n\n\nLord Kakkar is Emeritus Professor of Surgery\, University College London\, and\nPresident of the Thrombosis Research Institute in London. He is Chairman of\nKing’s Health Partners academic health sciences centre\, the Office for\nStrategic Coordination of Health Research\, the King’s Fund and UK Biobank.\nHe completed his medical degree at King’s College London and received his\nPhD from Imperial College London. His research interests include the\nprevention and treatment of venous and arterial thromboembolic disease and\ncancer-associated thrombosis. \nLord Kakkar was created a Life Peer in 2010 and sits on the cross benches of\nthe House of Lords. He has served as the Prime Minister’s Business\nAmbassador for Healthcare and Life Sciences from 2012-2018. \nAs a member of the House\, he has also served on the EU Sub Committee on\nscrutiny of the Internal Market; The Science and Technology Select\nCommittee; the Ad Hoc committee on the future sustainability of the NHS.\nHe was appointed by the Prime Minister as Chairman of the House of Lords\nAppointments Commission (2013 – 2018) and as Chairman of the Judicial\nAppointments Commission (2016-2022). \nHe has served as Chairman of The Royal Commission for the 1851 Exhibition\nsince 2022 and became Chancellor of the University of Lincoln in 2023.\nLord Kakkar was appointed a member of His Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy\nCouncil in 2014\, created a Knight Commander of the order of the British\nEmpire in 2022 and was appointed Knight Companion of the Most Noble\nOrder of The Garter by His Majesty King Charles III in 2024. \n  \n\n\n\n\nTravel Packages for overnight stay at Red Lion hotel available. Commissioned into the 11th Hussars he served in Germany & UK. He was subsequently Equerry to the then Prince Of  Wales KGKT. He later served in the United States Senate Parliament . He worked in the City of London before entering into the Houses of Parliament .Nicholas was a Conservative Member of Parliament from 1983 to 2019. In the course of his distinguished career in Parliament he held a number of senior roles\, including serving as a Minister for Defence and as  Minister for Agriculture\, Fisheries and Food. DESCRIPTION:Speaker:  Caroline Drummond\, MBE\, Hon DSc\, NSch\, HonFSE\, FRAgS\, FIAgM\, FRSA\, FSB\, CEnv\, BSc(Hons) Agric\, Chief Executive of LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) \nCaroline has been running LEAF\, the farming and environmental charity since it started in 1991. She is especially interested in the development of sustainable food and farming and she has over 38 years’ experience in this area. She graduated in Agriculture and has broad practical agricultural experience from across the globe. Her work focuses on encouraging more sustainable farming practices and building a better public trust and understanding of farming\, food\, health and the environment – values that she is personally extremely passionate about.  She is actively involved in many industry partnerships and initiatives in the UK and Europe. In 2009 Caroline was awarded the Member of the British Empire (MBE) by the Queen\, she has an Honorary Doctorate from Harper Adams University\, a Nuffield Scholarship studying ‘What can Farmers Learn from Science to improve the Nutrition of our Food’ and was awarded Honorary Fellowship for the Society of the Environment. In 2017 she was awarded the IAgrE Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Landbased Sector and the  \nFarmers Guardian Outstanding Contribution to Agriculture.  In 2018 she was awarded the RASE National Agriculture Award and an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Agricultural University.  In 2018 she sat on Dame Glenys Stacey’s advisory committee for the Farm Inspection and Regulation Report. Caroline is actively involved with the British Nutrition Foundation\, North Wyke\, and the Agri-tech initiative – is a director of the Agri-tech centre on Crop Health and Protection\, the Institute of Agriculture Management\, and on the advisory board of the agricultural project for the Science Museum. Caroline is married to a dairy farmer and they have a daughter.

He has been Press Secretary to the President of India\, the Spokesman of the Ministry of External Affairs\, Joint Secretary for Africa\, High Commissioner for India in Cyprus\, Director of the Nehru Centre in London\, Director General of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations\, New Delhi\, and Ambassador of India to Bhutan. \nA writer of depth and insight\, he has written over a dozen bestselling\, books including the highly successful Krishna: The Playful Divine (Penguin) on India’s most popular deity\, the critically applauded biography of the Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib\, Ghalib: The Man\, The Times (Penguin)\, and the Havelis of Old Delhi. His first book on a contemporary subject was the path breaking The Great Indian Middle Class (Penguin) (published also in French)\, followed by the astoundingly successful Being Indian: The Truth About Why the 21st Century Will Be India’s (Viking/Penguin 2004). Being Indian was described by The Economist as “one of the most subtle recent attempts to analyse the continent-sized mosaic of India and simplify it for the general reader.” It was published by Random House\, in the United Kingdom\, as Being Indian: Inside the Real India in March 2005. The Japanese\, Spanish\, French\, Portuguese and Italian translations of this book were very well received. Another work is a witty adaptation of Vatsyayana’s Kama Sutra\, which was published early in 2007 by Roli Books and has been translated into French and German. \nMr. Varma has also translated the poetry of Kaifi Azmi\, Atal Bihari Vajpayee\, and Gulzar (four volumes)\, all published by Penguin.\nHis book titled: Becoming Indian: The Unfinished Revolution of Culture and\nIdentity (Penguin-Allen Lane) was launched in February\, 2010 and deals with the pivotal issues of culture and identity for postcolonial societies. A Hindi and a French edition has been published. \nMr. Varma’s first work of fiction When Loss is Gain was launched in January 2012 by Aleph to much critical acclaim. It is now to be made into a Bollywood film. Gulzar’s translation of Mr. Varma’s epic poem Yudhister & Draupadi (alongwith the published original in English) was released in October-November 2013 by Penguin. Yudhister and Draupadi has now been adapted into a Play –‘Paansa’- written by Gulzar\, with extensive performances both in India and abroad. Mr. Varma’s book Chanakya’s New Manifesto: To Resolve the Crisis within India was launched by Aleph in January 2013. His latest book\, The New Indian Middle Class: The Challenge of 2014 and Beyond\, was published by Harper-Collins in 2014. \nMr. Varma’s new book\, ‘Adi Shankaracharya: Hinduism’s Greatest Thinker’ (Westland-Amazon)\, was launched in April\, 2018\, with the presentation of the first copy to the Hon’ble President of India. The book has also been published in Hindi\, and Malayalam\, Tamil\, Telugu\, Kannada\, Marathi\, Bengali and Gujarati translations will be out shortly. \nMr. Varma was conferred an Honorary Doctoral Degree for his contribution to the fields of diplomacy\, literature\, culture and aesthetics by the University of Indianapolis in 2005. Mr. Varma was also awarded by His Majesty the King of Bhutan\, the Druk Thuksey Award\, Bhutan’s highest civilian Award. He is the only serving Indian Ambassador in Bhutan to have received this Award. Mr Varma has also received the Lifetime Achievement Award by his school\, St Xavier’s Delhi\, and the Distinguished Alumnus Award by St. Stephen’s College\, University of Delhi. \nA widely admired public speaker and television commentator\, Pavan K. Varma’s columns appear regularly in The Times of India\, The Asian Age and several other leading publications. Mr Varma was till 1st January\, 2013 the Indian Ambassador to Bhutan\, after which he took premature retirement from service. In the same month\, Mr Varma joined as Adviser (Culture) to the Chief Minister of Bihar\, with the rank of Cabinet Minister. With effect from June\, 2014 he was a Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) until July 2016. He was a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs\, Committee on Government Assurances and Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. He was also been nominated to the Samsad (Court) of the Visva Bharati University\, West Bengal\, and the Court of Jawaharlal Nehru University\, New Delhi. He is currently the National General Secretary and National Spokesman of the Janata Dal (United).
