Mark Sedwill, Baron Sedwill of Sherborne, is a cross-bench member of the House of Lords. He is Chair of the “Atlantic Future Forum”, President of theSpecial Forces Club and a “Royal Marines Honorary Colonel.”
Lord Sedwill was Cabinet Secretary & Head of the Civil Service(2018-20), National Security Adviser (2017-20), Permanent Secretary at the Home Office(2013-17), British Ambassador and NATO Representative in Afghanistan(2009-2011). He had a Diplomatic and Security career,serving in , Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Cyprus and Pakistan. Lord Sedwill is a non-executive Director of: Rothschild & Co , Lloyd’s of London and BAE Systems. He is a Trustee of RNLI (Life Boat) and IISS. Educated at St Andrews and Oxford Universities,Lord Sedwill is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, Institute of Directors, Honorary Doctor of Law at St Andrews University, Honorary Fellow of Oxford University & of St. Edmund Hall Oxford and a Distinguished Fellow of RUSI.

Lady Howard ( Sandra)- Introduced her latest book “Love at War” (a true story )before Lord Howard’s talk .Sandra Howard, one of the leading fashion models of the 60s and 70s, appearing on the cover of American Vogue for two months in succession. She has written six previous novels and her latest, “Love at War”, is based on a true story set mainly in Cairo and East Africa during WW2. Sandra is married to our speaker, the former British Conservative Party Leader, Michael Howard, and has three adult children.

He was the Member of Parliament for Folkestone & Hythe from when he retired from the House of Commons and was appointed a Life Peer.He was appointed to the Order of Companion of Honour in 2011. Lord Howard recently captained the Peterhouse Cambridge team to victory in the Christmas University Challenge.

Mervyn King served as Governor of the Bank of England from 2003 to June 2013. Succeeded by Mark Carney. He was knighted (GBE) in 2011, made a life peer in 2013, and appointed by The Queen to be a Knight of the Garter in 2014.Lord King is the Alan Greenspan Professor of Economics and Professor of Law at New York University and Emeritus Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics.In 2016 he published The End of Alchemy. Including a new preface, it appeared in paperback in 2017 and has been translated into many languages.His new book (with John Kay) Radical Uncertainty was published in March 2020. Born in 1948, Mervyn King studied at King’s College, Cambridge. He taught at Cambridge and Birmingham Universities.Lord King was visiting Professor at both Harvard University and MIT.In October 1984 he became Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics, where he founded the Financial Markets Group.Lord King is Chair of the Pilharmonia Orchestra and a member of the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee.
